"You think that because I'm a movie star I don't have feelings. Well you're wrong. I'm an actress. I've got all of them!"

It's been an interesting week for the leading ladies of Hollywood. Not only were we shocked Monday with the news that Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes are separating after 7 years of marriage, but the internet has also been abuzz with news that Sandra Bullock is leaving Jesse James, her husband of 5 years. Rumors have been circulating the past couple of days that James has been having a long-time affair, which have been fueled by leaked text messages between him and his alleged mistress. He even issued a statement today apologizing to Bullock and his family for his "poor judgement."

Apparently there's a new "Oscar Curse" happening to these award winning actresses. It seems that the majority of the winners of the Academy Award for Best Actress over the past 10 years or so has either separated from, filed for divorce or broken up with her husband/boyfriend within a year of winning. Kate Winslet (2009 winner for The Reader) had a trial separation from Sam Mendes after filming Revolutionary Road together, and then announced this week their official separation. Reese Witherspoon (2006 winner for Walk the Line) and Ryan Phillippe split in 2006 after rumors of Phillippe's affair with Abbie Cornish surfaced. Hilary Swank (2005 winner for Million Dollar Baby) and Chad Lowe divorced in 2006 after nine years of marriage. Halle Berry (winner in 2002 for Monster's Ball) and husband Eric Benet separated in 2003 after rumors of Benet's cheating surfaced. Julia Roberts (winner in 2001 for Erin Brockovich) split from longtime boyfriend Benjamin Bratt just months after winning, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow (winner in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love) and boyfriend Ben Affleck.

It seems to me that these men have a bit of a complex about their significant others becoming more successful than them. But, you know, there's always more to the story than we see in the news, so maybe I shouldn't be too hard on them. Maybe Sandra should just call up Kate, Reese, Hilary, Halle, Julia and Gwyneth, pick up some bottles of Veuve Clicquot and have a First Wives Club viewing party!
